Recent studies have found that psychotherapy is highly effective even when delivered via phone or Internet-based video. The research, published in the Harvard Mental Health Letter, found that patients who participated in telemedicine-based therapy had just as good -- and some cases, better -- outcomes than those who received more traditional therapy.
This research has important implications for telemedicine, and also bodes well for patients who may be prevented from receiving mental health treatment because of distance, scheduling, disability or conditions such as agoraphobia.
