Google Docs -Adds File Storage

As I begin to use Google Docs for more and more of my work I am amazed by the feature set and the additional features that Google keeps adding to the application. Just last week, Google announced that it is now possible to upload and store all kinds of files in your Google Doc account. Google now gives you 250 MB of storage space for your files and you can purchase additional space if you need it. While you can upload just about any type of document, Google will only allow you to edit files with the following formats: .docx, .xlsx, .doc, .odt, xls, .ods, .ppt, .csv, .html, .txt, and .rtf.
So now if you need to store you files in native format it is easy to do- simply click on the Upload button and a way you go. Let me know how you intend to use this new Google Doc feature!

Adobe Share beta

I recently did a presentation at the NJECC Conference on trends in the field of assistive technology and decided to model for my audience the shift to Web 2.0. For my presentation I decided to use Google Present, which worked out wonderfully. As I begin to migrate my presentations and documents to the web, I am always looking for a way to store my files on line. This afternoon I came across Adobe Share which is in beta right now, but it does provide a nice way to store and share your files when connected to the web. It was very easy to set up and use and allows you to invite others to share your documents, if you decide to. Adobe Share works right within the browser and like all Adobe Web 2.0 applications it looks to be done in Flash. If you get the chance sign up for the Adobe Share beta and start sharing!

Xdrive -Free 5GB of Online Storage

If you are looking to store your files on-line you may want to take a look at Xdrive which will provide you with a free 5GB account. Xdrive announced the release of the Xdrive Desktop Lite client that has been developed using Adobe Air, which once installed lets you drag files from your desktop or USB drive right into your Xdrive account. I installed the Xdrive Desktop Client today and it worked like a charm. Within minutes I was able to drag my files and have them stored on-line. By setting permissions for files you can easily share files with friends and family. Once your files are stored you can access them with any computer with any internet connection. Give it a try! If you need more space you can subscribe for premium storage plans that start at $9.95 a month for 50GB of storage.

Box.net to the Rescue

As I begin to think about how and where I save my resources-it is clear that having the ability to have access to my files 24/7 is the ideal scenario. I recently did a Mimio Xi presentation for a school district and developed a custom MimioStudio Notebook for the workshop. In the past I would have saved it to a flash drive and then transferred it to the computer that I would be presenting on. This time around, I used the Box.net service which gives you 1 GB of free storage space on their web site to store my presentation file. I have found Box.net to be easy to use and having that extra storage space has come in really handy in more than one occasion. The Box.net accounts are free and if you want you can upgrade your account to obtain more storage space should you need it.

I have heard rumors that Google will be making server space available for free in the upcoming months. The service will be called Gdrive and I have heard that they will be offering somewhere in the vicinity 50 GB of space for document storage. Now that will be really cool!
